Once These Black Spots Appear, Your Health is Quietly Damaged!

2026-07-14

Recently, volunteers cleaning a hallway in Chaoyang District uncovered dense black and green mold behind old furniture. Many think wall mold is just an aesthetic issue, but it's actually a hidden health hazard.

How Toxic is Mold? According to Dr. Yu Ganggang from Beijing Friendship Hospital, airborne mold spores are major allergens that can trigger nasal congestion, coughing, and asthma.

  • • Infection Risk: Specific molds (like Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus niger) can cause severe lung infections in the elderly and children.

  • • Carcinogens: Certain mold byproducts, like aflatoxin, are Group 1 carcinogens. They are dozens of times more toxic than arsenic and can only be destroyed at temperatures above 280°C.

Where Does Mold Hide? Mold thrives when temperatures exceed 20°C and humidity is above 70%. Check these common areas:

  • • Bathrooms: Corners, tile grout, shower curtains, and silicone sealant.

  • • Refrigerators: Door seals (prone to allergy-causing Alternaria).

  • • Washing Machines: Damp interiors from closed lids or left-in laundry.

  • • Kitchens: Poorly cleaned wooden or bamboo cutting boards.

  • • Bedrooms & Balconies: Inside air conditioners and mattresses.

How to Handle Mold Spots? Keep areas clean and dry. Always wear a mask and gloves, and ventilate while cleaning.

  • • Mild Mold: Wipe away directly or use 75% alcohol.

  • • Severe Mold: Spray with diluted 84 disinfectant (do not mix with toilet cleaner) or a 1:99 bleach-to-water solution, then wipe.

Prevention is Key

  • • Control Humidity: Use a dehumidifier or AC dry mode to keep humidity below 50%.

  • • Enhance Ventilation: Use bathroom exhaust fans and keep doors/windows closed on humid days. Installing an indoor fresh air system is highly recommended. It continuously exchanges indoor and outdoor air, maintaining fresh, breathable air while preventing the stagnant, damp environments where mold thrives.

  • • Clean Regularly: Routinely wash AC filters, washer drums, and fridge seals.

Take a moment to check your home for these overlooked "black spots" and clean them promptly for your family's peace of mind!
